Thank you for considering adoption vs. Kijiji shopping! We pride ourselves in matching our rescues with the perfect, forever home.

It's our mission to set all of our dogs up in the right environment for not only the dog's needs, but the humans too!

Each application is given our full attention and follows a set of steps which can be viewed below.

HOW OUR ADOPTION PROGRAM WORKS

ADOPTION PROCESS

Step one

Complete and submit TBBR's adoption application.

Step two

Once your application is submitted, one of our volunteers will reach out to you and ask what the 3 best times are for you both to schedule a video screening call.

Step three

Please submit a video of where you will be taking the dog to release themselves (state how far in distance away from the home is), where you plan to exercise the dog and a tour of the home.

Step four

All approved applicants will then be scheduled for their video interview located within your home.

Step five

Once the home check/interview is complete, please notify your refrences as we'll be checking in!

Step six

Meet and greet time! If the previous steps align with our values and needs of the dog, it is now time to meet your potential forever furry friend!

The foster parent(s), Canine Coordinator, yourself and all parties within the household will meet up at a convenient location for you to meet your hopeful fur baby!

Step seven

You've now determined and notified your Canine Coordinator that the pup you met is yours forever AND your an approved applicant!

We'll send you over the adoption contract, payable invoice, Adopt Secure Pet Insurance and 3 time slots for you to pick up your forever furry friend!

I LIVE OUTSIDE OF THE GTA, CAN I STILL ADOPT?

Sure! Our vet clinic and fosters are mostly located downtown Toronto, so if you're willing to drive the distance for the meet and greets, and live in Ontario, we would love to have you on our adopter roster!

WHERE IS THE BARKING BILLBOARD RESCUE LOCATED?

The Barking Billboard Rescue is a non-profit, foster/adoption focused rescue based in the downtown core of Toronto.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR BECOMING AN ADOPTER WITH THE BARKING BILLBOARD RESCUE?

The Barking Billboard highly recommends for those who reside within GTA to apply to become TBB fosters. Becoming an approved foster with TBB enables us to plan future intakes and save more dogs. However, to foster with us, you must…

Be 21 years old or older
Live in a home that allows pets, including foster pets
Read through the entirety of our foster/adopter manual and partake in the TBB adopter training program
Be available to take time off / work from home for at least three full days after bringing the dog home
Provide your forever dog with daily engagement training games/walks
Enroll in The Doggett Style Training Program, Petcademy and Adopt Secure programs sent to you from your Canine Coordinator.
Provide written updates, pictures and videos to your Canine Coordinator during the first 3 months of your adopted, forever furry friend!

I HAVE KIDS, AM I STILL AN ACCEPTABLE APPLICANT?

Of course! Adopting a rescue animal is an opportunity that should be open to families of all shapes and sizes. In order to match you and our rescues with your family as best as possible, please provide as much detail about your family and home within your adoption application.

I LIVE IN A CONDO, CAN I STILL ADOPT?

Definitely! TBB launched to showcase that there are rescue dogs available for adoption in the downtown core of Toronto. We love having our fosters and adopters reside in the city either it be in a townhouse, home, condo or apartment. With that said, we do understand not every dog is going to do well in this setting. Downtown can be a lot for a skittish foster. If after the first 3 days you find this to be an issue, please contact your Canine Coordinator immediately so we can triage the situation.

WHAT SUPPLIES ARE PROVIDED?

All of TBBR adoptable dogs are equipped with loss prevention tools and a customized meal plan needed in order for a successful start to the good life!

WHAT KIND OF EXPERIENCE IS NEEDED TO BECOME AN ADOPTER?

No experience is needed! All of our foster and forever humans will be enrolled in an extensive training program to make sure you and your home are ready to take on the tiny dog-shaped tornado taking a pit stop at your house for the next 3+ weeks, or for the rest of yours/their lives! We want to provide you with the tools you need — both physically and mentally — to lead your forever dog seamlessly from their foster life, to their forever home. It’s you who provides the training, stimulation, and love to these pups.

CAN I STILL ADOPT IF I HAVE OTHER ANIMALS IN THE HOME?

Definitely! Within our adoption application we have a whole section dedicated to resident pets in order to match you and your pets with the perfect forever furry friend!

WHAT IS TBBR'S ADOPTION FEE?

Puppies under 6 months $950 + tax

Dogs over 6 months $850 + tax

*If a dog is adopted under the age of 3 months and is not altered, an additional $100 deposit is required. Please note this deposit is refundable upon completion of spay/neuter (proof of surgery is required). More explained during the adoption process.

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO FOR THE MEET & GREET?

Once the dog has an adoption pending, your Canine Coordinator will arrange a meeting between the foster parents, the potential adopters, all family members in the adoptive home, and of course the rescue dog!

Meet and greets will be scheduled by your Canine Coordinator and conducted in person at a location that works for all parties.

After a meet and greet, all approved applicants will be notified and senf via email thei adoptive contract!

CAN I STILL ADOPT IF I HAVE OTHER PETS IN THE HOME?

Definitely! Within our adoption application we have a whole section dedicated to resident pets in order to match you and your pets with the pefect candidates!

WHERE ARE THE RESCUE ANIMALS FROM?

The dogs that enter our care come from Northern Canada, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Southern Texas and California. To learn more about why we rescue from these particular zones, please visit our About Me page!
